Ruth Moilliett - featured artist 2010
Internationally admired and established artist Ruth Moilliet produces highly finished metal and glass sculptures inspired by the plant kingdom.
Many visitors to last year’s Art Week were lucky enough to see her work displayed in her garden in Holcombe Brook with their attention drawn to the overall spectacle and the delicate detail of her art.
She has worked for the last 10 years on public and private commissions for galleries and corporate and private collections across the world. Most recently viewers have seen her designs on television when they were on display in May this year at The Chelsea Flower Show.
You can also see her sculptures in this country at Urban Splash and the BBC as well as Four Seasons Hotels and you will see her featured regularly in national publications including The Sunday Times, The Guardian and Homes &Gardens.
Importantly to us, you can see and buy her work on display this year featured in Bury Art Gallery during Art Week. Her most recent work Pollination Bees and Butterflies draws inspiration from the close relationship between plants and insects and the range of flowers in her sculptures are specific to the bees and butterflies most commonly found in Britain today.
Her work celebrates harmony and evolution and the mutual benefit of peaceful coexistence. Working mainly in corrosion protected stainless steel, her art can be displayed outside as well as indoors and she crafts it with techniques of laser-cutting, specialist welding skills, hand-polishing and sometimes forge work. There is often colour combined with finishes which add texture and contrast and in some pieces she chooses float glass as her medium.
Ruth is always busy producing her beautiful and imaginative work but she also finds time to hold workshops and presentations and, to our benefit, she is generously supporting Art Week in Bury
